Did cavemen really smash women's heads in with clubs then drag them back to their caves and rape them?

Most unlikely. Even the most primitive tribes have marriage ceremonies, and it is very likely that 'cavemen' did too. They were most probably hunter-gatherers, and probably had courtship rituals similar to those of surviving hunter-gatherer tribes today. I know of no hunter-gatherer tribe where smashing women over the head is considered a normal courtship ritual.
